Alocasia

("Upright Elephant ears / Giant taro")

Origins:

Native to the rainforests of Malaysia to Queensland (Australia) and has long been cultivated on many of the Pacific Islands and elsewhere in the tropics.

Planting Tips:

Plant outdoors only after the soil and night temperatures have reliably warmed up to above 60F / 15C. By nature the tuber sizes vary quite a bit: dig the holes deep enough so that the top of the tubers will be covered with about 2" / 5 cm of soil. In the landscape or large containers, never let the soil dry out and water abundantly. Alocasia love heat and humidity. Do give them a location that is sheltered from the wind to avoid damage.
